ZEBRA

On our way to design and build the first Ammonia Bunker Barge for the ZARA region

Delta Tank and its partners have successfully submitted a proposal for EU funding to design, build and operate a bunker barge for “cold” Ammonia. The bunker barge is intended to meet future maritime Ammonia bunkering demand, serving the Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam region.

Under the project name “ZEBRA” and with EU support (CEF-T-AFIF 2025), the design will feature an 8.000m3 to 10.000m3 barge, under ADN regulations and the possibility of sailing “zero emission”. The use of Ammonia -to-Fuel Cell technology in combination with Boil-Off gas handling is part of the ZEBRA scope.

Experience gained from our partners’ participation in the Ammonia Bunkering Pilot in the Port of Rotterdam, their experience with cryogenic gas transportation over inland waterways and long term specific bunkering expertise will all play in to this first-of-a-kind bunker barge. ZEBRA progresses in close collaboration with international and regional Ammonia operations and safety experts, EU and local regulators, port authorities, end-customers, training institutions and maritime knowledge centers.

Zebra will pave the way for a full ammonia infrastructure in the ZARA region and will ensure and secure an initial Ammonia supply chain to all Ammonia propelled ships calling in these ports.
